The science of music and the brain has had many economic impacts.

The most prominent impact is closely tied to the major social impact - music therapy. Because of the positive results that research about music therapy has yielded, there are now more jobs available in the medical field. Music therapy is still a relatively unconfirmed treatment for many disorders; therefore, there are endless opprotunities for research in this field. These research opprotunities open up more jobs. Furthermore, jobs are now available for music therapists themselves. Research done with music therapy by the NIH included in their reports that "When applying the results of this review to practice, it is important to note that the application of music therapy requires specialised academic and clinical training." (5) Any music therapy that is clinically applied must be professional - spawning a new field of training and jobs.
